As the story goes, in 1860 an electrician from Ohio named James Spratt stood on the Liverpool docks and watched stray dogs scavenging discarded ship's biscuits. Where everyone else saw scraps, he saw a question nobody had asked: what if dogs deserved something made just for them?

His answer — the world's first dog food — built an empire and changed the life of every dog that came after. One man, one simple observation, and an entire industry was born.
